Campaign I
"pride, pomp, and circumstance of glorious war"
Othello
si vis pacem para bellum
"War is hell." -Ted Striker, Airplane!
UPDATE: After about 89 turns, Campaign I has come to a close.. to the victor belong the spoils, and so I present the name of the winner in big blue letters.
MARK FINN: Winner
Congrats, Mark. You done good.
We'll start up another game soon after a short break. See ya then. -host
UPDATE: I messed up the turn number. Let's just say we're on 33.
UPDATE: It's down to the 5 of us. Players 2 and 3 were having technical problems. We'll go as far as we can with this game and maybe we can get more people for the next one. Now let's rock and roll.
UPDATE: I have 3 turn files back already. Waiting for 8, 2, 3. I found an EchoView version that works. http://www.nefo.med.uni-muenchen.de/~echoview/ev1222bv32.zip
UPDATE: .RST files are here! And, for some reason Echoview isn't working. It won't accept passwords. I'm looking for another utility, and I'll post a link here if I find one.
UPDATE: Host will run for the first time Wednesday at midnight! Also, if you want to email me a picture of yourself (or your "leader") to place fear and awe in the eyes of your fellow players, I will place it next to your name below.
To know if the .RST files have been updated since you last played, I will keep a running number of what turn we are on, and the date when host ran last.
TURN: 89
9/12/02
How to get started:
Go to here and download Vga Planets for DOS (vp320.zip). Install it. Email me once you have the files and I will give you a supplemental program you'll need. If you want, you can use the windows version but I'd suggest registering the program if you do so you can make the "best" ships.
Next, read this page and decide what your top 2 race choices are. It starts off with detailed info, and further down is each races' advantages.
Email me what the choices are. (alangage@iastate.edu) Let me know if you'd like a special name rather than the default (SuperCool Race instead of The Federation, etc)
Once we have enough people, we'll start the game. You can download your turns here at the bottom of the page.
Playing
1. Once you've downloaded your result file (PLAYER?.RST), run the UNPACK program.
2. Then run the PLANETS program. You can enter and exit the planets program as much as you want without messing up your overall turn.
3. Once you've done everything you want to, run the MAKETURN program and email me your .TRN file. It should be PLAYER?.TRN ( ? = 1 if you are the federation, 2 if you are the Lizards, and so on- it will be the only .TRN file in your planets directory, also.) Once you run MAKETURN, you're all done. If you remember something that you want to change, you have to download your turn again and start over.
Turns will be processed at midnight (or the next possible time) everyday, and will be available here for download. If your turn isn't emailed to me by midnight, host will be run without it and your turn will not be processed! It isn't the end of the world if this happens, especially if you have ships moving that will take more than 1 turn (1 month) to reach their destination, but it's obviously not good to miss a turn.
Optional: Go here and download Echov11.zip. It's a utility program that lets you see your universe, minefields, ships, etc. It just makes life easier.
RACE.NM - Put this in your planets directory to change the race names.
