WHOa
Dear WHOTV 13 Meteorologist Brett McIntyre,
Last night on the 10 p.m. news you seemed to be 100% certain hurricane Gustav is going to be a Category 5 storm when it hits New Orleans. I really hope you are wrong, and it looks like you will be. Please stick to inaccuracies about about Iowa weather and not other states. Thank you.
Signed,

To DNC or or not to DNC
Any thoughts now that it's all over?
I wonder where John McCain will give his big speech. I hope it's the Metrodome. He could stand where Kirby made the catch in game 6.

When will FOX slip and say "Obama bin Biden"?
The Obama camp made a big deal about getting the news about the VP pick "first" via text message... but what is the point if they do it in the middle of the night?

When someone asks you how many houses you own, is it better to say "seven" or "I don't know, ask one of my staffers"?
And for our Des Moines readers, the new Mexican place, Mexico Viejo, across from the Beaverdale Dahls is very good.

Ok, so maybe I should be watching the Colbert Report.
I guess he issued a "Make McCain Exciting" challenge.
Here's a good one:
I for one welcome our new Sith overlords
Kind of a cool video of various Star Wars Imperial ships in San Francisco. I like the Death Star, they just need a little more variety with the lighting.
Edit: Interview with the creator.
Yesterday's NY Times article on John Stewart. In case you're like us and don't have cable, you can catch his show on Hulu (which is a great way to watch TV shows and movies... hopefully the future of TV; especially like the short short commercial breaks -- Kottke just listed a bunch of great movies available -- watch Hoop Dreams if you haven't already! Ok I'll be quiet.).

Mac app of the
Mac app of the day: Nano Count.
I prefer TextEdit to Microsoft Word for a lot of my word processing -- it's just so much faster to load up, and it has 90% of the tools I need. One thing I missed for grading papers was word count; this little app is probably the next best thing to having an actual word count in the program. Maybe adding word count to TextEdit will be the big thing in 10.6.
