Who's next, Neptune?
Now that Pluto is no longer a planet, I suppose the mnemonic device for remembering them now goes:
My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Nine ....
And this makes me sad.
Apparently, other people agree.

Where is my mind
I don't mean to go on a Siskow-style rant here, but how many Truman Capote films do we really need in the span of two years? At first I thought it might be a *different* story about Truman Capote, and I thought: Well, that's interesting: It'll be interesting to see an actor other than Philip Seymour Hoffman play the famous writer, but, I didn't know there was such a huge market for Truman Capote movies.
But as I continued watching, it became clear that it's pretty much the same movie. Unless the movie sat on the shelf since before Capote came out, or someone lost a bet ("Ok, if I sink this putt, you have to re-shoot Capote with different actors- and one of them has to be Sandra Bullock." "You're crazy." "Come on, it's a 30-foot putt." "Okay, deal." Rattle, rattle), there is no need for this movie to have been made.
Why don't we just redo Ray while we're at it? Oh wait... Walk the Line... I forgot.
My other thought on movies for today is that Snakes on a Plane is going to be really really bad. I'll still see it eventually, I'm sure. What they should have done is, when it became such an Internet phenomenon and people were expecting this really campy movie about Samuel L. Jackson killing a bunch of snakes on a plane, they should have re-edited the movie to be as campy as people imagined in their wildest dreams it would be. As it is, though, I bet the movie will try to be way too serious. The camp factor would have brought in a lot of repeat viewings, but as I bet most people interested in seeing it will watch it once, be disappointed, and forget about it.
Spending a couple more million to re-edit and even re-shoot some scenes to add the camp factor would have been awesome. I mean, seriously... the movie is called Snakes on a Plane.

Everyone loves the zoo
Last week Aimee and I stopped by the Lake Superior Zoo in Duluth, MN while we were up north. Here are a few shots from the day...
This grizzly bear was TIRED. Here having of of those "should I get up?" moments, half asleep, half awake.
As you can see by the next shot, he decided to go back to sleep.
This polar bear was entertaining- he kept swimming in circles, but he'd do the exact something each time- twist around, push off, roll over, etc.
Ring-tailed lemur. Woo.
Sequence of prairie dogs playing...
This wasn't from the zoo but from a visit to the cabin. This guy was sitting across the lake in the trees- in the night shot right below, it would be the set of trees right across from the raft. He actually started in the trees right above the cabin, but was startled and flew here before I had my camera. Really neat to see these huge birds fly.
This was a 151-second exposure night shot looking out on the lake. I did a little photoshop work to brighten it up a tad and bring out the color. It was almost a full moon, so there is where most of the light was coming from.
This is a crop from the previous shot- it's actually someone's campfire.

Dustin made me do it
...with his addition to YouTube: Wesley Snipes Interview.
What have I been up to? Aimee and I had a fun time up in Duluth- high school reunion for me and some time up at the cabin. I posted a couple pictures on Flickr, maybe more to come.
Not sure when the next podcast will be coming. Maybe next week sometime.
Last night was our last league softball game. It was a fun one- our bats were on fire. We won something like 14-4 and ended up 4-2 overall. Our team was pretty good! We get several double plays each game, which is always fun to pull off. I think I ended up around 7/13 or so. Mostly singles except for reaching second on an error.
Anyway, here are a few more fun links for your time-wasting enjoyment (the real reason you come here):
Letterman tells Rupert Jee what to do- part one and two.
ESPN outtakes- worth it for the Carl Lewis National Anthem alone.
Finally, something for discussion. I've talked to Aaron about this story about a Little Leaguer. What do you think?

Linkage
These mostly come from waxy:
If an American cookie is a British biscuit, and an American biscuit is a British scone, and an American scone is a British rock cake, what's an American rock cake? Don't even get me started on muffins or cupcakes...
Best music video ever, for net neutrality. Internet celebrities included. (video) (from their chirping, the birds seem to disagree)
Leaked TV show pilot of Aaron Sorkin's SNL-ish Studio 60. (video) Man, all his shows have the same delivery of dialogue, don't they?
Have Samuel L. Jackson call a friend to tell them about Snakes on a Plane. Yes that was probably from me today. Or Aaron.
Windows Vista speech recognition gone bad. (video)
and Congrats to Sean and Sonja on the wedding!
