More proof I can't draw
More Brain Age goodness: When Brain Age asks you to draw pictures, it doesn't give you anything go from: just your own memory. But after a while you sort of learn the "style" of picture that you're aiming for. Take that into consideration when looking at these: I didn't have anything to go off of when I drew them. (Click on each picture for a bigger view).
A swordfish.
A shark (which is probably the best drawing in my life).
...and a paramecium. Which I'm pretty sure they threw in there as a joke. When's the last time you drew much less thought about a paramecium?

HA HA HA HA HA
....finally a song I can remember the lyrics to. The Laugh Song. And only slightly creepy! (video - via BoingBoing)
Maury Povich terrorizes girl who is afraid of pickles (video - via BoingBoing).
More Maury goodness.... I don't think that's your kid....
Some photos:
Lucky and Kirby playing nice near the mirror...
Lucky and Kirby playing not so nice a few moments later... In the top photo you can see Kirby's wings starting to grow in. When we got him his wings were clipped, which I think is more dangerous for birds. He had a long feather growing in on his right wing but I think he might have landed on it funny and it eventually fell out. He is getting to be a pretty good flier, though.
Brain Age on the Nintendo DS has a fun segment where it has you draw pictures, usually of some random objects, from memory. Then it will show you what other people did (if they use the same game cartridge). In this case it asked us to draw ourselves. As you can see, I'm no artist. And also, I have no body.

Here's one of Ben tossing a bocce ball as Aimee and Jon look on. I thought it came out pretty well considering it was a total guess shooting it trying to get the ball in frame.

What classic movies do you hate?
This week the Onion's AV Club has a feature on "classic" movies that are OK to hate.
We're not talking about David Hasselhoff bad, or even good-bad David Brent bad movies... but movies that are supposed to be good in the lexicon of film history.
You can take a look at their list, but here are some of mine:
Breakfast at Tiffany's - OK, the ending is classic, but between Mickey Rooney's horrible stereotyped character and Audrey Hepburn's crazy character who is really difficult to like, it makes you want to say, "guess you had to be there." And by "there" I mean the 60's.
Gladiator - The CG effects are terrible... no real empathy for main character... really boring scenes with Joaquin Phoenix... I could go on and on.
The Big Sleep - If someone can explain the story in the order that events played out they will be my new hero.
Doctor Zhivago - Russia = cold. Check. Love triangle. Check. Not living up to other David Lean epics. Check.
What's your pick?

Finally, check out this video Aaron sent me of a Des Moines football phenom. He has a couple Tecmo-esque hits on defense about 2/3 of the way through (video link is on the left side).

I love the 80's

So, I started watching 24. I had never seen an episode, and we just finished the first disc from Netflix. I think it would be fun to assemble every thriller-movie cliché lines in the first four episodes alone. Some meh-dialogue and acting aside, I can see how it can be pretty addicting. I have disc 2 in the queue, so we'll see how it goes.
Here's one wedding photo to tide you over!
In unison now: "Aww..."

Here, kill some time at work:
My brother's funny music video on YouTube - As he says, If you feel like boosting my self esteem, send the link to your friends, give it a high rating, make positive comments on the page, or make a link to it on your website. If you feel like shattering my confidence, please give the video a low rating and criticize it on the message board.
Average Homeboy - Yikes. And another one by him. (video - via Chase)
New Folgers spot - Happy Mornings (video - via MetaFilter)
Canceling AOL - audio recording of guy trying to cancel AOL. Painful to listen to.
Lyrebird (video - via BoingBoing) - Australia's bird with amazing mimicry.
How'd Michael Jackson do that 45-degree lean? (video)

So, I gave in and got a Nintendo DS Lite. It's a pretty fun/innovative/nifty/clever device. So far I've been playing a lot of Brain Age. The touch-screen has been around a while in PDAs and such, but there are so many possibilities when it comes to a portable gaming device. It's fantastic for puzzles. And the fact that it has a built-in microphone that can understand your speech (most of the time) is impressive, too. It's come a long way since this guy. Let me know if you get one, we figure out some multiplayer games through the Internets.
Yeah, yeah, yeah... wedding pictures coming soon!

Announcement!
It's been a little while since the last update, but Aimee and I have a happy announcement to make!
We decided to get rid of cable TV!
Yeah, it was a little bit of a difficult decision to make... but Mediacom charges an arm and a leg. When you're paying so much and you flip through every single channel and the best thing on is QVC's Diamonique showcase, it makes you feel even worse about paying that much.
We kept the Internet connection, but got rid of cable TV altogether. We'll see how long we can go before we hook up the antennae and watch some network TV. All I can say is hurray for Netflix.
So, I'll let you know how the cable-free life goes. The shows Aimee and I will miss most will probably be The Daily Show, Sports Center, Twins baseball, 30 Minute Meals (Aimee, anyway), and Mythbusters.
And oh yeah, we got married! So that was fun. More on that later.
