Car Talk's Guide to Better Fuel Economy (via my Mom)
Does this mean I shouldn't accelerate up hills with 200lb. sand bags in my back seat while leaving the AC on full blast and my tires at 6 psi with my E-brake on?

All You Need is Flub
Beatles flubs, mistakes, and anomalies.
Ticket to Ride
Although I’ve never seen any official Beatle-sourced confirmation of this, many reports say that this title is in itself an anomaly. It is claimed that the lyrics as written and sung are "She’s got a ticket to Rye".
I’ve had various accounts of how an error was made in the printing of the record labels, or in studio documentation, and that it was too late to go back and fix. So "Rye" became "Ride" in print by accident. I’ve also been told that it was originally "Rye" but was changed on the documentation to be "Ride" in an attempt to deal with the fact that no-one in America knew where Rye was, and so this would confuse Americans less. So it was done deliberately, by the record executives, if you believe this version.
I must admit, the vocal has no clear ‘d’ sound. But beware: that’s how the misheard line "It’s such a feeling that my love, I get high, I get high …" came about, and also "I wanna hold your ham".

Magical
Columbia Pictures has secured the rights to the story of Jason "J-Mac" McElwain, the autistic boy who sank six three-pointers in is one and only high school basketball game. Magic Johnson will be co-producing the movie. Anyone who likes money will agree this is a good idea.
But upon watching the video again, this isn't a story of an autistic boy's triumph over adversity... it's about horrible defense. Get a hand in the kid's face! Put some pressure on the ball! At least take a timeout to try to ice the kid. Sheesh.

Blast from the past
Number Munchers download (I'm pretty sure I just blew away my previous high score, which I set in 1987).
Oregon Trail (with download at bottom) - works with AppleWin.
I was doing pretty well until I ran out of food - hunting is TOUGH. Ben got a fever, Martha died of exhaustion, Mom got cholera, Jon got the measles, I got dysentery. Gotta buy more food next time. And don't try to calk your wagon. It never works.

No. No you can't.
Anyone who uses Netflix will appreciate this user review I found for the movie Proof:

I wonder if they're still waiting... -Aimee
You know your state is in trouble when...
...Arkansas has better smoking laws than yours.
(and Ireland)
(and Scotland)
(etc.)
This might be on my mind because I had to do a carry-out to a customer's car last night that reeked of smoke. I had to reach into the car and pull the computer out (and then later put it back after it was fixed) and it was painful. If any politician wants to run for anything in Iowa (or Des Moines) solely on the basis of an indoor public smoking ban I will vote for you, be it Republican, Democrat, or crazy tinfoil hat wearing guy who plays a Casio keyboard nonstop.

One Two Three
A week and a half ago Aimee and I got another bird.
Named... Kirby. Aimee suggested it and I thought it sounded like a good bird name.
Lucky is still adjusting. Lucky ranges from eating together nicely with Kirby, grooming at the same time, hanging out near each other or even pecking at the ground together to scolding and/or chasing Kirby around the house. Lucky usually only gets mad if Kirby is getting more attention than him or touching anything that is "Lucky's." For example, his mirrors, toys, bird tree, or cage.
Right now Kirby is a little intimidated by Lucky. Kirby was born in January, so he's still pretty young. His wings are also still clipped, so his flying is all in the downward direction. Of course Lucky uses this to his advantage when bossing him around. It also means Kirby walks around on our floor a lot, although he is good about finding creative ways to climb or fly back up to his cage.
Kirby was much more tame off the bat than Lucky. I'm not sure why. Maybe Kirby was more used to day-to-day handling than Lucky was when we got him. When we got Lucky, he wouldn't move for the first couple days. It took maybe a week for him to trust us enough to step up on our finger. Kirby stepped on our finger from day one, although he's still getting to know us.
We'll see how Kirby does. Hopefully they will become friends. Lucky is used to being an "only bird" so it's a little understandable to be jealous of a new bird. They're pretty similar to kids, actually.
I put some more photos on Flickr if anyone is interested.

A gem from the Apple site:
EFI and BIOS
Macs use an ultra-modern industry standard technology called EFI to handle booting. Sadly, Windows XP, and even the upcoming Vista, are stuck in the 1980s with old-fashioned BIOS. But with Boot Camp, the Mac can operate smoothly in both centuries.
