iTunes mashup

My cousin alerted me to a neat site that lets you make an "iTunes Signature" from your library of music.

This one is a mix of the 20 most played songs. I have over 4600 songs and usually leave it on random... (P.S. check your volume first, make sure it isn't up too loud)

Mostplayed 20

This one is a mashup of 30 tracks randomly picked from some of my higher rated songs:

Favorites 30-1

Nice to see Michael Jackson made it on there... only because I don't have Dustin's a capella version in my library (which would definitely be rated higher).

On another note, a couple more 1800 Seconds clips are now online, and some Oxymorons Promos will be up in the next couple days as well.

I want one.

Sure, it can destroy a whole city, but it gets terrible mileage.

More clips.

Some more 1800 Seconds clips are now online. Sorry about the poor VHS-y quality. When I find an old Beta SP deck at Goodwill it'll look nicer.

I'm sure this is actually a good idea, but...

I'm sure this is actually a really good idea for a marketing campaign... but this is a letter from the American Diabetes Association. In red it says:

The enclosed nickel can make a real difference in the search for a cure for diabetes!

Why are you giving it to me then?? Go ahead, keep it! I'm all for finding a cure. Do they want me to send the nickel back along with some more loose change? Because in that case I think a picture of a nickel (or, "place nickel here") would have worked a lot better. How many nickels are they losing on this deal?

This update brought to you by the American Diabetes Association. Please donate. At least two nickels (including the one we sent you.)

1800 Seconds

I'm starting to digitize and put online a bunch of my favorite 1800 Seconds clips.

1800 Seconds was an Iowa State University student produced show on ISU 9/ISU 4/Cy46/ISU 18/whatever channel it is on today.

We did the half hour show every two weeks with a live studio audience (sometimes as many as 50 people!). It was about half taped skits and half live skits. The taped skits were always easier to write and therefore almost always funnier; although we did have some really funny live skits too.

The show also had a fake news report halfway through called The Lockhart Report, named after Jeff Lockhart, who spearheaded it. After Lockhart graduated, John Meyers filled in the chair (and kept the named "Lockhart Report"). Next on my list of things to put up is a collection of "Woodsie's Weather" which was a regular occurrence during The Lockhart Report.

The videos are also formatted for iPod. Enjoy.

(P.S., if you worked on the show or ever saw it and have a request for me to put online, email me!)

I steal links so you don't have to

So, last time it was 6200x6200 photo from Hubble. Are you ready for 18000x18000 resolution?

Speaking of viewing things from outer space, here's a pretty good Interesting Google Map location site. I also like the pyramids and the Eiffel Tower.

And if I might add at the risk of the mere mention of his name, Chuck Norris has responded to facts about him spread on the Internet.

Want to break your computer?

Check out this massive 6200x6200 picture taken by the Hubble telescope. The JPG version is 60 meg, the TIFF version is 109 meg. [link goes to download options]

I'm trying to download it but I think my Powerbook might explode.

Here is a link to smaller versions of the picture.

The image required 400 orbits and 800 exposures. Yikes.

Happy new thing!

I had a nice trip up to Duluth last week. The weather was nice- 30's and 40's. I got to meet up with my two high school buddies, Mark and Carey. I hadn't seen Carey in about six years so we had a lot of catching up to do. He'd been out of the country reporting and doing radio documentaries in India, the Philippines, and Nepal (as well as other various Asian countries).

Here we are at Sir Benedict's Tavern. A little while after this picture was taken, they began "open mic night." A guy took advantage of this offer and got up on "stage" right behind our table. He opened with the joke (I am not kidding), "So, have you ever thought about how weird it is that you park in the driveway and drive in the parkway?" Needless to say,

This picture was taken just moments after open mic night began.

We proceeded to take a chilly walk on the lakewalk down to the bridge, where the top picture was taken.

While in Duluth I always run into some random person I know, and this time it was a guy named Adam at Sir Benedict's. Now, I hadn't seen Carey since 1998 (or so was our best guess), but I hadn't seen Adam since about 1991! So, we chatted for a little bit... talked about people we knew. And then awkwardly said goodbye. Nothing too exciting.

I do notice that Minnesotans in their 20s tend to have a "Minnesotan" look to them- plaid shirt, fleece vest, maybe some lumber-jacky facial hair along with hair grown out a little in the back. They look as if they could at any moment pick up a backpack and start portaging a nearby trail. Iowans, on the other hand, don't really follow this trend. They tend to be a little more clean-cut, like they actually have a "real job" somewhere like a bank or insurance agency.

Anecdote from work:
A little girl walks up to the register with a Barbie video game in hand.
Little girl: How much is this game?
Me: Thirty dollars.
Little girl counts the small change in her hand and quietly puts the game back on the shelf.

I'd love to leave you with a fun link, but I don't have any good originals so I'll just leave you with Kottke's Best Links of 2005.
